WYTHE-BLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES GRANTS

 

The Wythe-Bland Community Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of its grants which were submitted for the February 1 deadline for a total of $722,689 to qualified 501 (c) (3) organizations (or governmental entities) serving Wythe County and Bland County Virginia, that support, promote and/or further the Foundation’s mission.  The funds are awarded to:


Mt. Rogers Health District:  $5,525 for Ladies Night Out and cancer awareness and survival

Wythe County:  $279,776 for EMS equipment for all three Wythe County Rescue Squads

Wytheville Training School Cultural Center: $72,111 for health screening clinics and basic computer classes

New River Highland Resource Conservation & Development:  $34,200 for expansion of classroom garden for Rural Retreat Elementary School

Bland Ministry Center & Dental Clinic:   $7,500  for book bags, school supplies, and clothes for Bland County children

Bland County:  $30,246 for fitness and exercise equipment for community parks in Bland County

Wythe-Bland Mountain CAP:  $7,320 for book bags, school supplies and health information for Wythe County children
Bland County Schools:  $10,000 for summer enrichment program

HOPE, Inc.:  $13,000 for planning grant for market study to expand HOPE Ministry Center

Benevolent Medication Program:  $7,500 for part-time assistant and supplies

Brock Hughes Free Clinic:  $150,000 to upgrade clinic services

Wythe County Public Schools Foundation for Excellence:  $43,000 for classroom grants

Family Resource Center:  $62,511 for LCSW for Lester House to work with abused children and family members


The Foundation, which was established in June, 2005, provides opportunities to improve the health, education, and welfare of the citizens of the Wythe and Bland Communities, with an emphasis on health care needs. 
 The Foundation will sponsor a WBCF Grant Writing Workshop on June 9 from 9-12 at the Wytheville Meeting Center.    All representatives of nonprofit groups are welcome to attend.  There is no fee but registrations are required.   All non-profit 501 (c) (3) organizations in Wythe and Bland Counties are invited to submit grant applications for the next grant deadline of August 1, 2010.  Those grants will be awarded in October, 2010.  Assistance with grant applications and additional information can be obtained from www.wbcfoundation.org or by contacting Dr. Gail Catron at 276-228-8001.
