WYTHE-BLAND FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES GRANTS

 

The Wythe-Bland Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of its grants which were submitted for the February 1 deadline for a total of $506,728 to qualified 501 (c) (3) organizations (or governmental entities) serving Wythe County and Bland County Virginia that support, promote and/or further the Foundation's mission.  The funds are awarded to:


Wythe County:  $205,470 for fire-fighting turn-out gear to meet the emergency response needs of the citizens for Wythe County

Benevolent Medication Program:  $8,900 for part-time assistance and supplies

Wytheville Training School Cultural Center:  $51,739 for health screenings and computer classes

Bland County Schools:  $10,000 for Mountain Home project summer enrichment program

Bland County Schools:  $20,530 for physical education program

New River Highlands Resource Conservation & Development:  $42,600 for classroom gardens for four schools

Benevolent Medication Program:  $25,000 for vaccines

Mountain Community Action Program:  $5,595 for back to school book bags

Bland Ministry Center & Dental Clinic:   $8,020 for back to school book bags

Family Resource Center:  $59,801 for LCSW

Bland County:  $105,018 for turn-out gear to meet the emergency response needs of the citizens for Bland County

Town of Wytheville Parks & Recreation:  $25,000 for boundary trail for Crystal Springs Recreation Area

Rx Partnership:  $15,000 for technical and audit assistance for Brock Hughes Free Clinic

Brock Hughes Free Clinic:  $125,000 for clinical services

Mt. Rogers Health District:  $4,525 for Ladies Night Out and breast cancer awareness

The Foundation, which was established in June, 2005, provides opportunities to improve the health, education, and welfare of the citizens of the Wythe and Bland Communities, with an emphasis on health care needs.  To date, the foundation has provided grants for over $10.5 million dollars.   This includes providing tuition scholarships to Wytheville Community College for all qualified high school graduates in the two counties.
  All non-profit 501 (c) (3) organizations in Wythe and Bland Counties are invited to submit grant applications for the next grant deadline of August 1, 2011.  Those grants will be awarded in October, 2011.  Assistance with grant applications is available. The next Grant Writing Workshop for all interested nonprofit organizations is scheduled for June 28, 2011 at the Wytheville Meeting Center from 9-12 am.  Additional information can be obtained from www.wbcfoundation.org or by contacting Dr. Gail Catron at 276-228-8001.
