WYTHE-BLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES GRANTS

 

The Wythe-Bland Community Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of its Spring 2008 grants for a total of $1,067,602 to qualified 501 (c) (3) organizations (or governmental entities) serving Wythe County and Bland County Virginia, that support, promote and/or further the Foundation’s mission. The funds are awarded to:


Bland Ministry Center & Dental Clinic: $39,848 for Locum tenens health care dentist for 8 weeks.

Bland County Public Schools: $5,000 for two milk product vending machines and start up funds.


Wytheville Training School Cultural Center: $76,110 for community outreach for physical and mental health needs of children, youth,
and adults.

Bland County Medical Clinic: $63,147 for equipment for building.

Wytheville Community College as lead agency for Community Health and Wellness Initiative: $270,000 for community
health and wellness and planning for Farmer’s Market.

Wythe County Public Schools Foundation for Excellence:$86,175 for summer enrichment program, classroom grants, and school excellence grants.

Spiller PTA: $21,734 for playing fields for ball and soccer.

HOPE Ministry: $27,500 to employ a financial education and certified housing counselor to expand services in Wythe and
Bland Counties.

Bland County Public Schools: $40,000 for technology equipment for Mountain Home Project; Mt. Rogers Community
Services Board: $16,100 for Camp Chinquapin.

Wythe-Bland Mountain Community Action Agency: $18,000 for emergency medication.

Crossroad Shelter, Inc.: $22,000 for pilot aftercare program to help clients live independently.

Mt. Rogers Health District: $52,540 to implement effective obesity prevention program for Wythe and Bland Counties.

Wythe-Bland Mountain Community Action Program: $10,000 to purchase book bags and school supplies for children.

Brock Hughes Free Clinic: $319,448 to expand patient capacity, increase medication access, improve chronic disease management, and develop a dental plan.

Since the Wythe-Bland Community Foundation was established on June 1, 2005, a total of $4,825,044.15 has been awarded in grants.

The total includes $1,500,000 for the new Wytheville Community Center and $165,151.15 in scholarships to Wytheville Community College for graduates of Wythe and Bland High Schools .  The Foundation provides opportunities to improve the health, education,
and welfare of the citizens of the Wythe and Bland Communities, with an emphasis on health care needs.   All non-profit 501 (c) (3) organizations in Wythe and Bland Counties are invited to submit grant applications for the next grant deadline of August 1, 2008.  Those grants will be awarded in October, 2008. 

          Dr. Barbara Dunn of Richmond will present a  WBCF Grant Writing Workshop specific to the Wythe-Bland Community Foundation Grant Guidelines on May 22, 2008, at the Wytheville Meeting Center .  Persons representing 501 (c) (3) organizations (or governmental entities) serving Wythe County and Bland County Virginia are invited to attend.  There is no charge but reservations are required.  Additional information can be obtained from www.wbcfoundation.org or by contacting Dr. Gail Catron at 276-228-8001.
